Description
This large all-natural and untreated kunzite is a beautiful lilac purple-pink color. While much of the kunzite sold on the market has been irradiated and/or heated, this gem is completely natural. It comes from the mine I worked in for a period of time in 2012-2013–the Oceanview Mine on Chief Mountain, in Pala, California. This is near the locale where kunzite was first discovered in 1902, and the nearby Pala Chief Mine was the source of much of the first finds of gem kunzite. The Oceanview Mine has been in operation since roughly 2002, and between late 2009 and 2011 there were several pockets of beautiful gem kunzites discovered. The rarest were a deep amethyst purple, while others were this more typical lilac-pink hue. All kunzite will gradually fade with prolonged exposure to UV light, such as in strong sunlight, but the California kunzite has been shown to be fairly resistant to this fading. Kept out of strong sunlight it will keep its color indefinitely.
This particular gem was faceted for me by a Brazilian cutter located in Los Angeles. The design is a classic Brazilian Portuguese-style oval, and is very bright and lively. It weighs 12.89 carats and measures 16.5 x 12.6 x 9.0 mm

Although we do our best to take the highest quality images, sometimes it can be difficult to envision how it will look on your hand. We can take a video of up to four gems side by on the hand to help you compare them and see how they perform in daylight. Please provide the following information, and include the SKU numbers or links to the stones you would like to see a video of.
Please note that we don’t do 360-degree videos as colored gems are optimized to be viewed face up, and because the current technology is such that none of the 360-degree systems we have tested provides the accurate color. Our desire is to present the most honest and accurate color possible!
