This amazing aquamarine crystal was found in 2009 in one of the final pockets of a mine located in Minas Gerais, Brazil. The mine is now closed, so specimens like this won’t be available from that location any more. The crystal is flat and tabular, with glassy pinacoid terminations and crystal faces.

Viewed from above over a white background you can see phantom bands and zones of dark and light blue-green, reflecting changes in the pocket chemistry as this crystal grew. There are very minor nicks on the crystal, which grew against the pocket wall. It measures 92 x 68 x 39 mm and weighs a hefty 451.5g! You don’t see crystals like this very often.
