This pretty little unheated Montana sapphire is a typical color for Montana sapphires–a very light blue-gray color. Like many unheated sapphires, it shifts color a brighter blue-green in daylight. The macro image is like the view through a 10x loupe and shows a few inclusions and some minor rutile silk, but they are impossible to see in the hand without a 10x loupe. In the hand the gemstone is very bright and lively and eye clean. I have factored the inclusions into the price, making this stone a great value.
This sapphire has been faceted in my own modified version of the diamond round brilliant cut, one that I’ve specifically optimized for sapphire to produce the desired “hearts and arrows” effect. The result is a scintillating gem, perfect for an engagement ring. It weighs 0.48 carats and measures 4.6 x 3.0 mm.
