Kornerupine is a rare born-silicate mineral that is very rarely found in gem grade. It is highly pleochroic, and cut gems will often show more than one color when carefully observed. This Kornerupine is a beautiful light green color, and shows a small bit of secondary orange giving a slightly yellow-green hue. The gem is very clean, with a few tiny natural inclusions not visible without a 10x loupe.
This Kornerupine is faceted in my “Bella” square cushion design and is extremely brilliant in the hand. The gem weighs 0.72 carats and measures 4.8 x 3.8 mm.
