Kornerupine is a rare born-silicate mineral that is very rarely found in gem grade. It is highly pleochroic, and cut gems will often show more than one color when carefully observed. This Kornerupine is a beautiful bright green color, and shows a small bit of secondary blue, making for a very minty green hue. The gem is extremely clean, with almost no inclusions visible even with a 10x loupe.
This Kornerupine is faceted in my “Testudo” brilliant oval design and is extremely brilliant in the hand. The gem weighs 0.75 carats and measures 6.2 x 4.7 x 3.9 mm.
