This pretty little unheated Montana sapphire is a classic color for Montana sapphires–a gorgeous rich blue-green hue reminiscent of a robin’s egg. The macro image is like the view through a 10x loupe and shows a very light amount of natural rutile “silk,” most of it tucked off to one side. In the hand the silk is impossible to see unless you use a loupe, so its an eye clean gemstone, and quite bright and lively.
This sapphire has been faceted in my own modified version of the diamond round brilliant cut, one that I’ve specifically optimized for sapphire to produce the desired “hearts and arrows” effect. The result is a scintillating gem, perfect for an engagement ring. It weighs 0.96 carats and measures 5.9 x 3.8 mm.
