This beautiful unheated Montana sapphire a very unusual and rare color for Montana: an intense pink with a faint orange hue to it. I’ve only seen a handful of Montana sapphires with this hue. The gem has a very light amount of rutile silk, a patch of which is just visible in the macro image, but its not visible in the hand without a 10x loupe, except when tilted at certain angles in very bright light. Its very bright and flashy in the hand.
This sapphire is faceted in my modified version of the diamond round brilliant cut, optimized for sapphire and cut to “hearts and arrows” level of precision; the result is a glittering beauty of a gemstone. The gem weighs 1.03 carats and measures 5.9 x 3.9 mm. It would make an amazing center stone for a unique and one-of-a-kind engagement ring.
