This Montana sapphire is very unusual for a Montana sapphire–it shows yellow, blue and green flashes as its rolled around in the hand. This type of sapphire is typically called a “parti-colored” sapphire, and while common in some deposits, they are not often seen in the Montana sapphires. The color was developed by having the sapphire heated in Montana–but that is the only treatment it has had. The heating not only deepened the color, but it also improved the clarity–the gem is bright and lively in the hand.
This sapphire has been cut in the classic diamond round brilliant design, optimized for sapphire. The result is a sparkling gem weighing 1.13 carats and measuring 6.0 x 4.2 mm. This would make a lovely center stone for an engagement ring.
