This remarkable unheated Montana sapphire is a rarity–a color-change sapphire. In daylight and some fluorescent light it is a light gray to greenish-gray color with a zone of violet purple on two sides, while under incandescent light it changes to a rose-lavender color with just hints of the green visible. It is exceptionally clean for an unheated sapphire, with just a few tiny natural crystal inclusions that are not visible without a loupe. In the hand it is extremely bright and scintillating!
This sapphire is faceted in my modified version of the classic diamond round brilliant cut, optimized for sapphire and cut to “hearts and arrows” precision. The gem weighs 1.13 carats and measures 6.1 x 4.0 mm. It would make an amazing center stone for a unique and one-of-a-kind engagement ring.
