This beautiful unheated Montana sapphire is an unusual mauve color in daylight and most fluorescent lights, but changes to a rich lavender-pink under incandescent light. Outdoors in daylight it can appear light green–it’s a highly unusual color-changing sapphire. The gem has very good clarity, with just a few tiny inclusions only visible with a 10x loupe. The high clarity makes this gem remarkably bright and scintillating in the hand.
This sapphire is faceted in my custom oval brilliant design I created just for Montana sapphire. The design is called “Helena” in honor of the capital of Montana, located near the sapphire mines on the Missouri River in Montana. The gem weighs 1.14 carats and measures 6.7 x 5.6 x 4.0 mm. It would make a superb center stone for an engagement ring.
