This beautiful unheated Montana sapphire is an unusual magenta pink color tinted with orange. In daylight the orange-pink hue dominates, and the gem even shows a hint of violet while under incandescent light the color shifts to a more intense pure magenta color. It is an extremely rare color for Montana. The macro image shows some tiny internal feathers but they are not visible without a loupe–the gem is eye clean and very bright and flashy in the hand.
This sapphire is faceted in my modified version of the diamond round brilliant cut, optimized for sapphire and cut to “hearts and arrows” level of precision; the result is a glittering beauty of a gemstone. The gem weighs 1.19 carats and measures 6.2 x 4.2 mm. It would make an amazing center stone for a unique and one-of-a-kind engagement ring.
