This beautiful Montana sapphire is an unusual silvery green color in daylight or fluorescent light; under incandescent light it appears more silvery-gray. The gem has very good clarity, with just a few tiny inclusions only visible with a 10x loupe. The lines visible in the macro photo are internal twinning planes, and are not visible in person. The high clarity makes this gem very bright and scintillating in the hand.
This sapphire is faceted in my custom oval brilliant design I created just for Montana sapphire. The design is called “Helena” in honor of the capital of Montana, located near the sapphire mines on the Missouri River in Montana. The gem weighs 1.55 carats and measures 7.3 x 6.2 x 4.5 mm.
