Kornerupine is a rare born-silicate mineral that is very rarely found in gem grade. It is highly pleochroic, and cut gems will often show more than one color when carefully observed. This Kornerupine is a beautiful light green color, and shows a small bit of secondary orange, giving the green a slight olive tone. The gem is very clean, with a few tiny natural inclusions not easily visible without a 10x loupe.
This Kornerupine is faceted in my “Bella” square cushion design and is extremely brilliant in the hand. The gem weighs 1.59 carats and measures 6.2 x 5.1 mm. Kornerupine is typically quite small, and gems over one carat are very rare.
