This gorgeous pink tourmaline is bright bubblegum pink color. The gem rough this was cut from was sourced from the famous Stewart Mine in Pala, California. The Stewart is famed for its wonderful pink tourmalines; however, they are becoming more difficult to find as the mine has been closed from active mining for several decades, with just occasional small-scale hand mining occurring. This gem was cut from a small parcel of rough I acquired from one the miners who did that work; it was part of his “miners cut” of the finds.
The gem weighs 12.95 carats and measures 15.1 x 9.8 mm. Like most of the pink tourmaline found in southern California it is lightly included but eye clean. It was faceted for me by miner and gem cutter Phil Osborn, cut in a custom round design. It is very bright and lively in the hand, and the inclusions are far less apparent in person than the macro images make them appear.
