This remarkable tricolored tourmaline (also known as polychrome tourmaline) comes from the recent finds in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. We work to source this rough directly from the small-scale artisanal miners at this new find, and have selected only some of the largest and finest pieces of tourmaline mined there. This gem was cut from a gorgeous tricolored crystal that transitioned from a dark reddish orange on one end to a beautiful sage green on the other end. In order to highlight this gorgeous color transition I faceted this gem in a special design I have created just for these types of multi-colored gem crystals. The gem is extremely clean with no inclusions visible without the use of a 10x loupe.
This tourmaline is faceted in a custom rectangle cushion design named “Aquilone;” the result is a glittering beauty of a gemstone. The gem weighs 13.65 carats and measures 21.8 x 9.6 x 8.1 mm. It would make for an impressive centerpiece pendant or simply appreciated as a collector’s gemstone.
