A beautiful ice-blue color, this topaz comes from old stock from Brazil. I don’t know if this was treated or not; the color is a pale enough blue that it could be natural. However, I’ll assume it was irradiated and heated as most blue topaz is. That said, I prefer this more natural shade of blue rather than the more electric blue irradiated topaz that is often seen for sale. This is a big stone, weighing in at 13.79 carats and measuring 12.95 x 10.70 mm. I cut this in a square cushion design created by Willie Klaja, called “Clover.” The photo does not do the gem justice–the black you see in the gem is the reflection of the camera. In the hand, it’s a pure brilliant blue.
