This amazing Oregon sunstone is remarkable for a number of reasons. The primary reason is its size–at 15.69 carats the gem is extremely large for an Oregon sunstone. Next is the clarity–there is no schiller at all in this piece, and just the faintest wisp of a tiny feather tucked off to one edge, and invisible without a loupe. Oregon sunstones rarely are this clean, particularly when they are larger. Finally, the color is a rich deep red with zones of lighter orange-red on the two long sides of the oval. Overall the combination of size, clarity and color make this an amazing and very rare example of the finest of the Oregon sunstones. While the term is often over used, this is a true collector’s or museum piece.
I faceted this gem in my custom “Testudo” brilliant oval design, optimized specifically for Oregon sunstone. The gem is amazingly bright and scintillating in the hand. It weighs 15.69 carats and measures 18.7 x 14.2 11.2 mm; extremely large for an Oregon sunstone. This would be a remarkable center stone for a pendant or simply appreciated as a collector piece.
