This beautiful heated Montana sapphire is a lovely bright open blue color, with occasional flashes of blue-green; under incandescent light the color shifts to a pure blue-green. The color was developed by heating the gem in Montana, but no other treatments were made to the gem. The treatment is permanent and stable and not only develops the color, but also improves the clarity. The gem has an inclusion one side that shows as a slightly lighter patch of blue (you can see it in the lower left side of the gem in the main photo). The inclusion has been factored into the price, making this a very good value for the size and color.
This sapphire is faceted in my custom “Helena” brilliant oval design that has been optimized for sapphire; the result is a glittering beauty of a gemstone. The gem weighs 2.12 carats and measures 8.2 x 6.8 x 5.0 mm. Sapphires this large are very rare from Montana–it would make an amazing center stone for a unique and one-of-a-kind engagement ring!
