This beautiful unheated Montana sapphire is very unusual–its a bicolored combination of bright yellow and colorless. The color is caused by a bright yellow spot located just off center in the gem. As its held in the hand, the yellow spot appears to “dance” around the gem–a remarkable effect! There is a very light amount of natural rutile silk that just barely softens the brilliance of the gem, but its not nearly as prominent as the macro image implies. The macro image also shows two tiny feathers and on crystal inclusion, but none of these are visible without a 10x loupe. This is very bright and beautiful eye-clean gemstone, and quite unusual!
This sapphire is faceted in my custom “Aurora” brilliant square cushion design that I’ve created and optimized for sapphire; the result is a glittering beauty of a gemstone. The gem weighs 3.27 carats and measures 7.8 x 5.8 mm. It would make an amazing center stone for a unique and one-of-a-kind engagement ring.
