This beautiful unheated sapphire is a gorgeous teal/blue-green, a classic color for the Montana gems and one of my favorites. Like most of the Montana gems, the color shifts with the lighting from a gorgeous teal-green in daylight, fluorescent and incandescent to a rich green under LED lighting The gem is 100 percent natural and untreated in any way. This sapphire is extremely clean for a natural unheated Montana sapphire of this size; there is a very slight amount of natural rutile silk and one tiny discoid, just barely visible in the image. In the hand the discoid is not visible without a loupe, and even then it takes considerable effort to locate it. It can be placed under a prong when the gem is set, which would conceal it.
This sapphire is faceted in the classic diamond round brilliant design, cut to “hearts and arrows” precision; the result is a glittering beauty of a gemstone. It weighs 3.17 carats and measures 8.6 x 5.8 mm. Unheated sapphires from Montana rarely are found at this size and clarity level, making this an extremely rare gemstone. It would make an amazing center stone for a beautiful engagement ring!
