This beautiful unheated Montana sapphire is an unusual but gorgeous light chartreuse green color. This color is very uncommon in Montana sapphires, and I see only a handful per year that have this color. The macro image shows some very fine bits of rutile silk, but these are not visible without a 10x loupe and some careful searching. The gem has remarkable clarity and that combined with the precision cutting has created an incredibly brilliant and scintillating gemstone.
This sapphire is faceted in my modified version of the diamond round brilliant cut, optimized for sapphire and cut to “hearts and arrows” level of precision; the result is a glittering beauty of a gemstone. The gem weighs 3.35 carats and measures 9.0 x 5.9 mm. It would make an amazing center stone for a unique and one-of-a-kind engagement ring.
