This Montana sapphire is a beautiful bright yellow color, one of the more common fancy colors found in Montana sapphires. The color was developed by having the sapphire heated in Montana–but that is the only treatment it has had. The heating not only developed the color, but it also improved the clarity by dissolving the rutile silk. While the macro image shows some minor veils, these are not visible at all in the hand; its a bright and flashy gem in the hand. The macro image also shows a slight greenish-blue hue, but this is also not visible in the hand except as a lighter zone of yellow that “dances” around a dark golden yellow core–the effect is quite remarkable and very beautiful.
This sapphire has been cut in the classic diamond round brilliant design, optimized for sapphire. The result is a sparkling gem weighing 0.92 carats and measuring 5.8 x 3.7 mm. This would make a lovely center stone for an engagement ring.
