This beautiful little Montana sapphire is one of the more uncommon colors found in the El Dorado Bar sapphires–a rich deep royal blue color. This particular sapphire has been heated to develop this color–but even in the heated sapphires, this color is very uncommon in the Montana gems. There are some some tiny internal feathers from the heating process, but they are just barely visible in the hand and don’t show when viewing the gemstone face up, as it would be mounted in a ring.
This sapphire has been faceted in my own modified version of the diamond round brilliant cut, one that I’ve optimized for sapphire. The result is a beautiful gem, perfect for an engagement ring. It weighs 1.18 carats and measures 6.0 x 4.3 mm.
