This beautiful Montana sapphire is nearly colorless–there’s just the slightest hint of blue in the gem. Unlike most of the Montana sapphires I offer, this one has been heated. The heating was done here in the United States, in Montana, and was the only treatment done. It is permanent and stable. The heating dissolved the rutile silk, allowing the blue color to develop, and making the gem clear and transparent. This gem has an internal feather that cuts back the brilliance of the stone but does not effect the durability in any way. As a result, I’ve deeply discounted it, making it a real bargain. The feather is much less visible in the hand than it appears in this macro photo–in the hand its actually quite difficult to see the inclusion.
This sapphire is faceted in my custom modified version of the classic diamond round brilliant design, optimized for Montana sapphire. The gem weighs 1.55 carats and measures 7.0 x 4.5 mm; the perfect size for an engagement ring.
