This is a very large sapphire for Montana–at 4.70 carats it’s a true rarity. The color is very typical for the El Dorado Bar sapphires–a blue-green color reminiscent of aquamarine. This gem is natural and has not been heated or treated in any way. There is some silk in the stone and one larger inclusion that cut back a little bit on the brilliance–but the stone is far more beautiful and flashy in the hand than the photos imply. Were it clean it would easily command a price 3x greater than my asking price.
I faceted this sapphire in a custom design I call “Snowflake.” The gem weighs 4.70 carats and measures 8.75 x 8.75 x 6.82 mm. While the photos make the inclusions apparent, in the hand they are barely visible.
