This beautiful heated Montana sapphire is a unique combination of two colors, golden yellow and and a light blue. The colors are in zones, creating a bicolored effect. The color was developed by heating the gem in Montana, but no other treatments were made to the gem. The treatment is permanent and stable and not only develops the color, but also improves the clarity. This sapphire has amazing clarity, especially given the very large size. There is just one small fingerprint inclusion tucked off on the edge of the gem, and only visible with a 10x loupe; in the hand it appears flawless, making it very bright and scintillating.
This sapphire is faceted in my custom “Testudo” brilliant oval design that I’ve created and optimized for sapphire; the result is a glittering beauty of a gemstone. The gem weighs 7.36 carats and measures 12.5 x 9.5 x 7.9 mm–extremely large for a Montana sapphire. Each year only a small handful of sapphires–literally less than a dozen–of this size are found in Montana. It is a true rarity, and a true collector’s gemstone.
