Description
Spinel has long been under-appreciated as a fine gemstone, after spending centuries being confused with sapphire and ruby–and for good reason, as they are nearly identical in brilliance and dispersion. Spinel is slightly less hard than sapphire, but still hard enough to be a durable gem, as its also quite tough; its suitable to be used in everyday jewelry. This particular spinel is a rich hot pink color. Like most colored gemstones, the color can shift slightly, showing a richer pink under fluorescent lights and a more open hot pink in daylight. It has very small inclusions that are quite difficult to see with the unaided eye from a normal viewing distance. The inclusions have been factored into the price, making this a great value for the size and color.
I faceted this spinel in my modified and optimized version of the classic diamond round brilliant cut. The resulting gemstone is gorgeous–extremely bright and lively in the hand. It weighs 2.16 carats and measures 7.60 x 5.3 mm. It would make a perfect center stone for an engagement ring!

Video Request
Although we do our best to take the highest quality images, sometimes it can be difficult to envision how it will look on your hand. We can take a video of up to four gems side by on the hand to help you compare them and see how they perform in daylight. Please provide the following information, and include the SKU numbers or links to the stones you would like to see a video of.
Please note that we don’t do 360-degree videos as colored gems are optimized to be viewed face up, and because the current technology is such that none of the 360-degree systems we have tested provides the accurate color. Our desire is to present the most honest and accurate color possible!
