This Rock Creek Montana sapphire is a gorgeous bright lemon yellow color. While this color is not uncommon in the heated Rock Creek sapphires, its quite rare in the unheated sapphires. This was the best and largest natural yellow sapphire I managed to facet from over two kilograms of Rock Creek sapphire rough. It is an extremely clean stone, with a tiny bit of silk visible in a microscope, and one tiny feather just barely visible with a 10x loupe.
I faceted this sapphire in my modified version of the classic round brilliant design that I’ve optimized for sapphire. The resulting gemstone is extremely bright and scintillating in the hand. The gem weighs 0.54 carats and measures 4.5 x 3.2 mm.
