Description

The mines in Tanzania and Kenya produce the famed and highly desirable rich green Tsavorite garnets, but they also produce some beautiful garnets in lighter shades of green and blue-green.  These are often referred to as “Merelani Mint Garnets” or “Kiwi Garnets” in the trade, but whatever you call them, they are quite beautiful.  Because of their lighter colors, they will often show flashes of dispersion in the hand, giving them extra sparkle.  While they often have tiny crystals or bubble inclusions (often referred to as “sugar” in the gem trade), they can also be quite clean.  Like all of the green garnets, the color primarily comes from minute traces of vanadium.  Their lighter hues makes them more affordable than the Tsavorites.

This garnet is a pale kiwi green color–more of yellowish green than the bluish-green of a mint garnet. The gem has slight inclusions that are just barely visible to the unaided eye. The inclusions have been factored into the price, making this a great value for the size and color. This garnet is cut in our custom “Pendeloque” brilliant pear design, and is cut to high precision.  The gem weighs 0.80 carats and measures 7.4 x 5.4 x 3.5 mm. It would make an excellent choice for a unique engagement ring!

Video Request

Although we do our best to take the highest quality images, sometimes it can be difficult to envision how it will look on your hand. We can take a video of up to four gems side by on the hand to help you compare them and see how they perform in daylight. Please provide the following information, and include the SKU numbers or links to the stones you would like to see a video of.

Please note that we don’t do 360-degree videos as colored gems are optimized to be viewed face up, and because the current technology is such that none of the 360-degree systems we have tested provides the accurate color.  Our desire is to present the most honest and accurate color possible!
