Description
This heated sapphire is a lovely shade of medium blue. It shows indications of heat treatment; heat treatment is permanent and stable and not only develops the color, but also improves the clarity. This sapphire was upcycled from a vintage piece of jewelry, and based on gemological evidence, we believe it is from Africa. It has very small inclusions that are quite difficult to see with the unaided eye from a normal viewing distance. The inclusions have been factored into the price, making this a great value for the size and color. While the macro image shows some banding/zoning of the color, this is not easily visible in the hand; the general appearance of the gem is a uniform medium blue color.
The sapphire has been recut in the United States to improve the brilliance; it is faceted in a classic square step cut design and cut to high precision. It weighs 1.45 carats and measures 6.6 x 4.0 mm.
