Description
This Ceylon sapphire is a beautiful cornflower blue–one of the most desirable hues for a sapphire. It shows indications of heat treatment; heat treatment is permanent and stable and not only develops the color, but also improves the clarity. It was sourced directly from a mine owner in Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka (formerly called Ceylon) is famous for its gemstones, especially sapphires. The government has maintained regulation over mining to prevent large-scale environmentally destructive mining from occurring, encouraging small-scale artisanal mining. This gem has excellent clarity, making it bright and scintillating in the hand. There may be tiny inclusions that are visible only with a 10x loupe.
The sapphire has been recut in the United States to improve the brilliance; it is faceted in a classic brilliant oval design and cut to high precision. It weighs 1.55 carats and measures 8.0 x 6.4 x 4.2 mm.
This gem also has a GIA sapphire origin report included; the report number is 1232897478; a photo of the report is attached. The report number has also been laser-inscribed on the girdle with our logo.
