This beautiful heated Montana sapphire is an uncommon bright orange with flashes of gold and blue, like a Montana sunset. These multicolored sapphires are referred to as “particolored” in the gem trade; the effect is quite beautiful. The color was developed by heating the gem in Montana, but no other treatments were made to the gem. The treatment is permanent and stable and not only develops the color, but also improves the clarity. The sapphire has good clarity, but does a small inclusion tucked off near the edge that is only visible with a 10x loupe; it is an eye-clean gemstone.
This sapphire is faceted in my custom “Helena” brilliant oval design that has been optimized for sapphire. The gem weighs 1.59 carats and measures 7.3 x 6.2 x 4.6 mm. It would make a unique and eye-catching center stone for a one-of-a-kind engagement ring.
