Description
This remarkable color-change garnet comes from a relatively new deposit in Kenya which has had very limited production of gem rough. They are generally very small and often quite included; this stone is remarkably large and clean for the type and locale. It has some very tiny bubble-like inclusions that are only visible with a 10x loupe; its a very clean and brilliant gemstone. The color is very unique and of course it shifts and changes with the lighting. In daylight and LED lighting its a unique mix of a dark purple and blue that is difficult to describe, as it also shows brilliant flashes of red and blue dispersion. Under fluorescent light it changes to a deep purple color, while under incandescent light the gem becomes a rich magenta-red color with flashes of deep red.
I faceted this gem in my “Helena” brilliant oval design, which enhances the dispersion of the stone. In daylight the dispersion is remarkable with brilliant flashes of blue and red dancing across the gem. The gemstone weighs 1.96 carats–quite large for a color-change garnet–and it measures 7.7 x 6.5 x 5.0 mm. It would make a superb center stone for a one-of-a-kind ring.

Video Request
Although we do our best to take the highest quality images, sometimes it can be difficult to envision how it will look on your hand. We can take a video of up to four gems side by on the hand to help you compare them and see how they perform in daylight. Please provide the following information, and include the SKU numbers or links to the stones you would like to see a video of.
Please note that we don’t do 360-degree videos as colored gems are optimized to be viewed face up, and because the current technology is such that none of the 360-degree systems we have tested provides the accurate color. Our desire is to present the most honest and accurate color possible!
