Description
This heated sapphire is a lovely pale blue with a hint of violet. It shows indications of heat treatment; heat treatment is permanent and stable and not only develops the color, but also improves the clarity. This sapphire was acquired directly from a reputable gem dealer, and based on gemological evidence, we believe it is from Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka (formerly called Ceylon) is famous for its gemstones, especially sapphires. The government has maintained regulation over mining to prevent large-scale environmentally destructive mining from occurring, encouraging small-scale artisanal mining. The sapphire has very small inclusions that are quite difficult to see with the unaided eye from a normal viewing distance. The inclusions have been factored into the price, making this a great value for the size and color.
The sapphire was faceted outside the United States in a classic oval design. It weighs 1.98 carats and measures 8.4 x 6.1 x 4.5 mm.
