Description
This garnet comes from a small lot of old rough that came out of Tanzania in late 2013. There was a very limited supply of this rough and we were lucky to acquire a parcel. It has been identified as a rare form of pyrope garnet called “pastel pyrope”.
This gem is a pink-toned magenta purple under daylight (first photo), while under incandescent light, the color changes to a hot pink (second photo). The gem is 100 percent natural and untreated in any way. It was cut from rough sourced from Morogoro, Tanzania. It has extremely small inclusions that are quite difficult to see with the unaided eye from a normal viewing distance. The inclusions have been factored into the price, making this a great value for the size and color.
This garnet was faceted in the United States in our “Testudo” brilliant oval design and cut to high precision; the result is a glittering beauty of a gemstone. The gem weighs 2.02 carats and measures 8.4 x 6.3 x 5.3 mm.
