Description
Spinel has long been under-appreciated as a fine gemstone, after spending centuries being confused with sapphire and ruby–and for good reason, as they are nearly identical in brilliance and dispersion. Spinel is slightly less hard than sapphire, but still hard enough to be a durable gem, as its also quite tough; its suitable to be used in everyday jewelry.
This gem is a gorgeous bright, bubblegum-like pink with just a hint of a purple tone. Like most colored gemstones, the color can shift slightly, showing a richer pink under fluorescent lights and a more open hot pink in daylight. It has very small inclusions that are quite difficult to see with the unaided eye from a normal viewing distance. The inclusions have been factored into the price, making this a great value for the size and color.
This spinel was personally faceted in the United States by Jeffrey Hapeman in our optimized version of the classic diamond round brilliant cut and cut to high precision; the result is a glittering beauty of a gemstone. The gem weighs 2.16 carats and measures 7.6 x 5.3 mm.
