Description
This beautiful Australian sapphire is a gorgeous rich olive green. We source our Australian rough from small-scale artisanal gem miners that work the Anakie gem fields by hand for minimal environmental disruption. While the rough we cut this from was purchased as unheated, it is very old stock material, and we believe that some of it may have been heated. Consequently, we presume it has been subject to standard heat treatment, which has been factored into the price. Heat treatment is permanent and stable and not only develops the color, but also improves the clarity. It has excellent clarity, making it bright and scintillating in the hand. There may be tiny inclusions that are visible only with a 10x loupe. There is also a slight haze to the gem from undissolved rutile silk that gives the gem a soft glow.
This sapphire was faceted in the United States in our “Triptych” trillion design and cut to high precision; the result is a glittering beauty of a gemstone. The gem weighs 2.26 carats and measures 8.0 x 5.1 mm.
