Description
This sapphire is a stunning mix of blue and green. The gem shows flashes of the two colors, creating a “particolored” effect. This stone can look much more blue or green depending on the lighting. While it does not show any obvious signs of heat treatment, we presume it has been treated and the gem is priced accordingly. Heat treatment is permanent and stable and not only develops the color, but also improves the clarity. This sapphire was acquired directly from a reputable gem dealer; it is represented as being from Madagascar. The sapphire has excellent clarity, making it bright and scintillating in the hand. There may be tiny inclusions that are visible only with a 10x loupe.
The sapphire was faceted outside the United States in a classic rectangle cushion design. The gem weighs 2.32 carats and measures 7.5 x 6.4 x 5.1 mm.
