Description
This unheated Umba sapphire is a rare color change gem: it’s a steely, gray-toned lavender under daylight (first photo), while under incandescent light, the color changes to a richer pinky lilac purple (second photo). The gem is 100 percent natural and untreated in any way. It has very small inclusions that are quite difficult to see with the unaided eye from a normal viewing distance, as well as a slight haze and small patch of natural rutile silk that can flash in certain lights. The inclusions have been factored into the price, making this a great value for the size and color.
This sapphire was faceted in the United States in our “Hyperbola” brilliant oval design and cut to high precision; the result is a glittering beauty of a gemstone. It weighs 2.34 carats and measures 8.3 x 7.0 x 5.2 mm.
