Description
This sapphire is a rare color change gem: it’s a purplish-gray under daylight (first photo), while under incandescent light, the color changes to a lilac pink (second photo). The gem is 100 percent natural and untreated in any way. This sapphire was acquired directly from a reputable gem dealer; it is represented as being from Montana. This gem has slight inclusions that are just barely visible to the unaided eye. The inclusions have been factored into the price, making this a great value for the size and color. There is a slight amount of natural rutile silk that can flash in certain lights, but it’s not objectionable and is proof positive of its unheated nature.
The sapphire has been recut in the United States to improve the brilliance; it is faceted in a custom brilliant “egg” design and cut to high precision. It weighs 2.38 carats and measures 9.0 x 7.4 x 4.6 mm.
